A Manhattan straphanger was punched to the ground and slashed in the hand with a knife by a creep trying to mug him over the weekend, police said.

The 42-year-old man was on the southbound No.1 train platform at the 23rd Street station around 1:20 a.m. Sunday when the would-be mugger demanded his wallet, cops said.

The brute then slugged the victim in the face – knocking him to the ground – and slashed his hand, the NYPD said.

The assailant then bolted from the Chelsea station. He didn’t manage to steal anything and fled empty-handed, cops said.

Medics brought the victim to a local hospital, where he was treated for his injuries.

Police described the suspect as a man with a medium complexion, last seen wearing a long green jacket, brown boots and a black baseball cap.

Footage released by the NYPD shows him gesturing angrily and appearing to yell as he stands by the turnstile area of the station.
