NextImg:NYC leaders blast silence on White House’s promised migrant liaison

The White House had still not provided any details Thursday of the liaison it promised to assist New York City with its crippling migrant surge — a full week after pledging to send help.

The radio silence has further insulted Big Apple leaders, who have already blasted the paltry offer as pathetic.

“We need the federal government to step in yesterday to help our city, arguably the greatest city, deal with the migrant crisis for a little over a year now,” City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams sounded off Thursday.

“We could use a whole lot more than a staffer and if we get a staffer we need a staffer with a plan.”

There was also no word from the Biden administration as to when Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas would visit the boroughs to get an up-close look at the crisis, which is pushing the city’s shelter system to the brink.

Mayor Eric Adams — who is not related to the speaker — met with Mayorkas last Thursday, who vowed to send someone to help manage the thousands of migrants being housed and fed on New York’s dime.

More than 95,000 asylum seekers have arrived in the city since last spring, officials said.

Adams accepted the offer but emphasized that what the Big Apple really needs is more than $4 billion of federal funds to cover the cost of this.

Neither City Hall nor the DHS could name the promised liaison or further elaborate on the plan.

City Council Majority Leader Keith Powers, whose district includes the inundated migrant processing center at Manhattan’s historic Roosevelt Hotel, said a liaison would be useless.

“If you walk outside the Roosevelt Hotel right now, you will see New York City needs far more than a liaison we need a declaration of a federal emergency and all of the resources that come along with that,” Powers insisted.

“This is an urgent moment this is a crisis and it’s an all hands on deck.”

Democratic NYC Public Advocate Jumaane Williams urged President Biden himself to take action.

“I’m clear that the inaction from the White House has exacerbated and made it worse. I wish the President would come down and see what’s going on for himself,” he said.

However, a DHS staffer in Texas, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said New York City — with its liberal leaders and policies — has brought it upon themselves.

“It’s hard to feel bad for [New York City]. They call themselves a sanctuary city and now they’re complaining about having migrants,” the source said.

“It’s a drop in the bucket compared to what we’ve been dealing with for years,” they continued, adding that the Lone Star State had seen 2.8 million migrants come through since 2020.
