A veteran city correction officer was charged with groping a female guard while on duty at Rikers Island, prosecutors announced Tuesday.

Carlos Ozorio, 38, an 11-year DOC veteran, was arrested and arraigned Tuesday on charges of forcible touching, third-degree sexual abuse and second-degree harassment over his alleged attack on a fellow officer inside a Riker’s Island Headquarters trailer facility on Dec. 5, 2020, according to the Bronx District Attorney’s Office.

According to an investigation conducted by the city Department of Investigation and the Bronx DA’s Public Integrity Bureau, Ozorio approached his colleague from behind and allegedly grabbed her private parts “while kissing her neck,” according to a press release.

After the victim pushed herself away from Ozorio, he “slapped her buttocks,” officials said.

“We will hold accountable anyone who commits a crime in the jails, and workplace sexual abuse will not be tolerated,” Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark said in a statement.

“The victimized officer was performing her job and was allegedly abused by a colleague, someone she should be able to trust in place where Correction staff are victims of violence by inmates.”

Ozorio is due back in court on June 7, 2023.
