New York attorney general Letitia James’ team took the first legal step to try and confiscate assets from former President Donald Trump after he declared he couldn’t lock down a bond to pay a $464 million fine, it was revealed Thursday.
About one week after Judge Arthur Engoron handed down his decision ordering Trump to pony up $464 million, James’ team formally registered the civil fraud lawsuit in Westchester County, indicating that his properties there may be in jeopardy, documents reveal.
James’ team formally registered the judgement on March 6 without providing a name of specific Trump assets or a reason for doing so. Trump’s properties there include Trump National Golf Club Westchester as well as the 212-acre Seven Springs estate.
She has given Trump a deadline of March 25 to post bond on the judgement.
