If anybody needed any more evidence that Novak Djokovic was the GOAT, the tennis icon certainly got the backing of Lacoste in that debate.
The brand made an unprecedented move in its history, replacing its iconic crocodile logo with a GOAT.
The limited run — available on polos, T-shirts, tracksuit jackets, caps and pants — was done specifically to honor Djokovic’s record-breaking career, and was launched for this U.S. Open.
The Serb, who scored a third-round victory on Friday night, has had a deal with them for over eight years, but switching animals is as big as an endorsement can get.
It’s fitting, with the French designer sports fashion company founded back in 1933 by a tennis player René Lacoste.
The update was by creative agency BETC.
Marketa Vondrousova upended seventh-seeded Jasmine Paolini of Italy 7-6 (4), 6-1 on Grandstand.
Technically, sixth-seeded American Ben Shelton being eliminated was numerically bigger. But he retired with an injury. Paolini just simply got outclassed by her Czech foe.
Vondrousova’s reward is a matchup with No. 9 Elena Rybakina.
“I think she had to do what she had to do, and I think it was probably good that she let it out. Some of us say on tour, when we see a girl crying, they’re probably going to win. Some people are, like, oh, she’s crying, she’s breaking down. That’s actually worse. She’s probably going to play great now.”
