CHARLOTTE, N.C. — For North Carolina, if it’s in Charlotte for the NCAA Tournament and it’s a game against Michigan State, it usually means victory for the Tar Heels.
Saturday night was no different than history has written for these circumstances, with North Carolina overcoming Michigan State, 85-69, in the second round of the NCAA Tournament at the Spectrum Center to advance to yet another Sweet 16.
The No. 1 seeded Tar Heels (29-7) are now 6-0 against Michigan State (20-15) in the NCAA Tournament.
They’re 36-2 in the state of North Carolina in the NCAAs and 14-1 in Charlotte.
North Carolina, which has the most wins in NCAA Tournament history with 133, was led by its star guard out of White Plains, RJ Davis.
He led all scorers with 20 points and was the engine that ran the game for the Tar Heels.
Armando Bacot, the Tar Heels’ 6-foot-11 man in the middle, scored 18 points and had seven rebounds.
Harrison Ingram scored 17 points and had six rebounds.
Manhattan’s Cormac Ryan scored 14.
