Norman Reedus and Helena Christensen’s son, Mingus Reedus, was arrested in New York City on Friday, Aug. 23. The NYPD confirmed to People that the 25-year-old has been charged with criminal obstruction of breathing and assault.
According to police, officers “observed a 33-year-old female with minor injuries to [her] neck and leg” after responding to the scene near 16th Street and 8th Avenue. Authorities added that “EMS responded and transported the victim to NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue in stable condition.” Mingus was taken into custody, and the investigation is still ongoing.
This isn’t the first time Mingus has made headlines for an altercation. Back in 2021, he was arrested after allegedly punching a woman during the San Gennaro festival in Little Italy. He later accepted a plea deal in March 2022 for disorderly conduct.
At the time, police said the victim, a 24-year-old woman, suffered an injury below her left eye and was taken to New York’s Downtown Hospital.
Speaking to The New York Daily News about the 2021 incident, Mingus claimed he acted in self-defense after the woman and her friends confronted his group.
“It was instinct,” he said. “I was reacting to them swarming me and was afraid for the safety of my group.”
He alleged that the group of women followed him for two blocks, throwing food and threatening his girlfriend. “We told them to leave us alone, but they kept following,” Mingus recalled. He said he threw his arms out to protect himself when he struck one of the women.
“Ten seconds later the police got involved,” he added. “My intention for that day was to mind my own business and play fair games.”
