The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued an advisory on its website announcing the ground halt and warned that flights could see delays.

“There is a Traffic Management Program in effect for traffic arriving La Guardia Airport,” the FAA said.
“This is causing some arriving flights to be delayed an average of 2 hours and 4 minutes.”
The agency cited snow and ice as the reason for the advisory.
As of Tuesday morning, there were 149 flight delays and 125 cancellations at the airport, according to FlightAware.

More than 20 million people are reportedly under winter weather alerts ahead of the nor’easter.
Gov. Kathy Hochul has declared a state of emergency across dozens of upstate counties.
“New Yorkers should plan for two to three days straight of hazardous winter weather starting tonight,” state Homeland Security and Emergency Services Commissioner Jackie Bray said Monday.

“Only travel if absolutely necessary, and keep your phones and other devices charged in case you need to call for assistance during a power outage,” Bray added.
