NextImg:Non-drinker Blake Lively accused of ‘cash grab’ as she launches alcohol brand

She puts the boo in booze.

Blake Lively is being slammed by critics for launching an alcohol brand – despite admittedly not being a drinker herself.

“Drinking isn’t my thing. But for f* sake, flavor is,” Lively, 35, wrote via Instagram Wednesday, along with a photo where she is seen serving cans of her sparkling cocktail brand, Betty Booze.

“Homemade recipes. Real fruit. Real ingredients. Quality booze. No crap. Also a real time saver. Which is why I really did it. @bettybooze.”

The brand seems to be named after her and husband Ryan Reynolds’ 3-year-old daughter, Betty. They also share daughters James, 8, and Inez, 6, and welcomed their fourth baby in February. They’ve kept the name and sex of the their newest family member private.

Lively’s alcoholic beverages come in a line of flavors including Sparkling Bourbon with Apple Ginger Sour Cherry, Sparkling Tequila with Oak Smoked Lemonade, and Sparking Tequila with Lime Shiso.

“@bettybooze if you’re also tired. Or lazy. But like me, you still have an ego about what you serve. Or if you just appreciate your mouth. Any excuse counts…” Lively wrote in another post.

Critics were left scratching their heads over the “Gossip Girl” alum’s choice to launch an alcoholic beverage line after openly admitting that she doesn’t drink alcohol.

The actress shared several posts promoting the sparking alcoholic beverages.

“If drinking isn’t your thing. Why does it have alcohol??” one confused netizen commented on the post.

“If just flavor is ‘your thing’ And not drinking, why oh why on Earth do you endorse an alcoholic beverage?” a second person echoed.

“I don’t get why you would promote alcohol if you don’t drink. So you can serve them to others at parties? Very odd choice,” a third wrote.

Lively’s new line of drinks was deemed a “cash grab” by critics on Instagram.

“So she’s smart enough not to drink alcohol but wants people to spend their $ on alcohol so she can get richer?” someone jabbed.

“If drinking isn’t your thing why not do a mock tail instead?” a fan suggested.

“How can you market/create a product you don’t openly consume yourself? ???? come the f on now,” an angered Instagram user wrote.

“First @jlo and now Blake Lively, ridiculous all these celebs who don’t even drink selling alcohol just to make a buck ????,” added another, referencing how Jennifer Lopez launched an alcoholic beverage brand despite also being sober.

Someone else agreed, writing, “Another cash grab like JLo.”

“Really tired of the celebs milking alcoholism when they know it’s toxic and dangerous and don’t drink themselves. Money grab from the Celebs,” another sniped.

However, many of Lively’s fans defended the actress’ interesting choice to hawk a product she would never drink herself.

“A good business person sees a gap in the market and fills it. They don’t have to be a consumer of your own product to stand behind its quality. She’s putting her name on this product and risking her reputation. That’s a good business woman ????,” one person applauded in the comments section.

Other fans defended Lively and claimed she was just being a good business person.

“Woah people are so sensitive about everything. Someone can not drink and still create a drink for those who do,” another said in Lively’s defense. “The company started with NA sparkling mixers. People drink those as mock tails and in cocktails, people can choose to drink these or not. Why not build a company where there is something for everyone.
If you don’t like it don’t buy it, if you don’t drink it don’t drink it, don’t like it keep scrolling.”

“Spotted……..Serena van der woodson ….. entrepreneur,” another wrote, referring to her character on “Gossip Girl.”

“The ridiculousness of these comments. It’s a drink, get over it or go try it, either way keep it classy,” one more chimed in.

Lively shared in 2021 that she doesn’t drink alcohol.

Lively shared in 2021 that she lives a life of sobriety because she doesn’t love the way drinking makes her feel.

“I don’t drink because I don’t like the effects of alcohol, but I like being a part of it,” she told People in 2021 while discussing her beverage brand Betty Buzz: a line of five flavored non-alcoholic bottled beverages that can be combined with alcohol or enjoyed on their own.

She added, “I like being social. I like people coming together. I found that sometimes not drinking, the thing that was interesting was that it was a little alienating, because you don’t feel — and maybe it’s just in your own head — but you just don’t really feel a part of it.”

She even acknowledged that some people would be critical of the fact that she was pushing a mixer.

“When we first started talking about this company, one of the conversations that came up was like, ‘Are we going to be pushing a boulder up a hill because you don’t drink and mixers are made to mix with alcohol? I mean, that’s the name of them. So are you going to have credibility in this space as somebody who doesn’t drink?'”

His gin brand is worth an estimated $610 million.

“And I was like, ‘Yeah, because I feel like I’m somebody who really likes flavor, that’s it for me,’” Lively said.

The “Simple Favor” star seems to be following in her husband’s firewater footsteps. Reynolds, 46, acquired a stake in Aviation American Gin in February 2018.

In 2020, the liquor brand was reportedly sold to European beverage company Diageo as part of a deal worth an estimated $610 million.
