NextImg:NJ passenger whose flight plummeted 28K feet endures second nightmare

Maybe she should start taking a boat.

A Jersey City woman whose flight to Rome last week was rerouted to Newark after unexpectedly descending nearly 30,000 feet in roughly 8 minutes suffered through another scare in the sky on her return trip.

Tato Lovere was onboard flight UA 509 from Rome to Newark Tuesday when an hour into the flight, a stewardess put out a call for help for any passengers with medical experience.

About 10 passengers quickly crowded near the back of the Boeing 777 before the pilot announced the plane would be making an emergency landing for a person experiencing medical issues, Lovere said.

“I feel like the most unlucky-lucky person,” Lovere, 47, said. “I’m alive, the plane didn’t go down, but is that luck, or is that ‘next time you might not be so lucky?’”

The emergency landing came just days after Lovere white-knuckled through a previous airborne scare when her United flight to Rome last week dropped 28,000 feet.

The plane was rerouted to Newark Liberty International Airport, where Lovere and other passengers boarded a later flight to Rome.

The captain said that a “6 or 8-inch opening” on the side of the airplane had caused a pressurization issue, passengers said, but a United spokesperson said there was never a loss of cabin pressure.

“There’s just a little something that doesn’t sit right,” Lovere, 47, told The Post. “I’ve never had two planes [reroute] back-to-back on separate days, and it’s the same route, and I got the same seat [number].”

“I wonder if that [ill] person is going to blame me [for the medical emergency],” she joked.

Charles Hobart, a spokesman for United, confirmed that UA 509 was diverted to Paris on Tuesday to address a passenger’s medical issues before setting off for Newark later in the afternoon.

He did not share any updates about the passenger’s medical condition.
