NextImg:Nikki Haley’s Trump support: Letters to the Editor — May 25, 2024

The Issue: Former GOP prez wannabe Nikki Haley’s announcement that she will vote for Donald Trump.

Good for Nikki Haley for taking a significant first step in burying the hatchet and trying to unify the GOP by publicly saying, “I will be voting for Trump” (“United GOP vs. divided Dems,” May 24).

She went on to caution former President Donald Trump that “he would be smart to reach out to the millions of people who voted for me and not assume that they’re just going to be with him.” She concluded her statement by calling the Biden presidency a “catastrophe.”

If Trump maximizes this upside while emphasizing Biden’s catastrophic effect on the country — a united GOP coupled with millions of independent and remorseful Democrats on board — he should win the election. He’s set up to make the greatest comeback in American political history.

Nikki is holding her nose and voting for Trump. She was a very good UN ambassador, and is maybe looking for a job. But you would have to be a fool to not see this once-great country circling the drain.
If you love your fellow Americans and your country, vote like Haley.

Many fair-minded individuals praised Haley for her honesty and courage in taking on and criticizing Trump.

Now we find that it was all an act. That brief period of decency and patriotism has evaporated, as Haley pledges to vote for the man who believes that he has absolute immunity to commit any crime, and who would use a second term to pursue revenge against his many foes, attempt to cripple or shut down media outlets that do not promote positive stories about him, pardon the rioters he instigated to go to the Capitol and whose campaign recently alluded to a Hitler-like “Reich.”

Haley has sold out, choosing politics over principle. She has inflicted a further wound on a GOP that would not be recognized by its statesmen of the past. She will not be seen in the annals of history as a national leader who can stand tall.

Haley saying that she will support Trump in the election is not surprising. If Trump wins, she probably wants a job like secretary of state.

The Issue: The unprovoked assault on actor Steve Buscemi in Midtown Manhattan in early May.

Alleged attacker Clifton Williams is lucky that actor Steve Buscemi didn’t transform into Nucky Thompson during the “Boardwalk Empire” star’s beating (“Slammer for ‘Buscemi slugger’,” May 19).
Again, mental-health awareness needs to be addressed in order to make New York City streets safer. No wonder tourism is down.

So I guess if you attack a famous actor there is outrage. But if you attack cops or ordinary citizens, people don’t seem to care. I wonder why it works like that?

Our justice system is as dysfunctional as the Biden administration.

Multiple prior arrests for a myriad of crimes and this alleged attacker was still walking the streets of New York City. His public defender wanted him released again onto the streets once more.

We continue to see a blatant disregard for the safety and well-being of law abiding residents. I noticed the free pepper-spray handouts, but rest assured folks, the criminal element will grab a few cans. This would never happen in Florida.
