NextImg:Nick Sirianni to meet with Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie with fate uncertain

Nick Sirianni better be a good salesman.

The Eagles’ head coach is scheduled to meet with team owner Jeffrey Lurie to discuss how he plans to improve the franchise after an epic collapse that culminated in Monday’s wild card loss to the Buccaneers, according to ESPN.

While the owner-coach meeting is routine, Sirianni’s predecessor, Doug Pederson, did not survive said meeting in 2021 despite winning a Super Bowl.

“Three years ago, Doug Pederson did not meet the Eagles owner’s expectations and was let go,” tweeted Philadelphia Inquirer reporter Jeff McLane.

Sirianni’s pitch to his owner will include his plans for potential changes among his offensive and defensive coordinators and potential assistants, per ESPN.

Sirianni and general manager Howie Roseman have already been contacting coaches, coordinators and coaching agents about potential openings, according to the ESPN report.

It’s clear that massive changes are coming for the Eagles after their early postseason exit, but the biggest storyline surrounding the team is whether Sirianni will pay the price for the failures.

Philadelphia followed last season’s Super Bowl appearance by starting the year 10-1, but then lost six of its last seven games, including its road wild card game.

The Eagles have made the playoffs three straight years under Sirianni, and he’s 34-17 in the regular season, but Pederson’s firing shows that not even a title can save a coach sometimes.

Sirianni reportedly has two years left on the five-year deal he signed upon being hired.

Quarterback Jalen Hurts regressed in his first year with offensive coordinator Brian Johnson, and the defense struggled under both Sean Desai and midseason promotion Matt Patricia.

The Titans have requested an interview with Johnson for their head coaching opening, and perhaps he will head to another team should he not land a lead gig.

The Eagles will surely have a new defensive coordinator.

As Lurie considers whether to replace Sirianni, the Eagles are bracing for center Jason Kelce to potentially retire and possibly losing veterans Fletcher Cox and Brandon Graham.
