NextImg:Nick Bosa begins campaign to get calls in Super Bowl 2024: The Chiefs ‘hold a lot’

Nick Bosa is already doing some politicking.

The 49ers’ star defensive end has begun his campaign to have holding calls go in his favor in Super Bowl 2024, ripping Chiefs offensive tackles Donovan Smith and Jawaan Taylor in the process.

“They hold a lot,” Bosa said of the pair.

There’s some history here with Bosa mentioning the Chiefs and holding in the same sentence.

When the Chiefs rallied to beat the 49ers in Super Bowl 2020, San Francisco believed Kansas City got away with a clear hold on Bosa on one of the critical plays in the game.

Patrick Mahomes found Tyreek Hill for 44 yards on third-and-15 from the Chiefs’ 35-yard line with Kansas City trailing 20-10 and a little more than seven minutes remaining.

That play helped the Chiefs score a touchdown, and Kansas City rallied from the 10-point deficit for its 31-20 victory that gave Mahomes his first championship.

49ers owner Jed York cited the no-call when asked about his memories of the game on Thursday

Bosa had one of the four 49ers’ sacks in the game.

“I remember Nick Bosa getting held on third-and-long, and that not getting called,” York said.

Both Bosa and York hope that won’t happen again in this Super Bowl rematch, and they may have a point with this Chiefs roster.

The Chiefs had the most offensive holding calls in the NFL this season, according to nflpenalties.com.

Taylor, in his first season with the team, was the NFL’s most-penalized player with 20 calls against him, including eight offensive holding calls, per nflpenalties.com.

Smith, a nine-year veteran, had five holding calls, per the website.

Bosa is coming off a two-sack game against the Lions in the NFC Championship game, and has nine quarterback hits spanning the 49ers’ first two postseason games.

The Chiefs have allowed just two sacks across their first three playoffs games, with both coming in last Sunday’s 17-10 win over the Ravens in the AFC Championship game.
