Just like Zay Flowers, the NFL’s Twitter account made a big mistake Sunday.
Following the game-changing goal-line fumble by Flowers in Baltimore’s 17-10 loss to the Chiefs on Sunday, the NFL’s main account seemingly took a dig at the first-year receiver.
The @NFL account tweeted, as captured by X user @NFLhaterwatch, a clip of the fumble with this caption: “FUMBLED AT THE GOAL LINE. BIG PLAY ZAY.”
The person behind the account, perhaps realizing that tweet could be viewed as mocking the Ravens’ first-round draft pick, then deleted the post.
The NFL’s main account then swapped to a generic post that complimented Chiefs defensive back L’Jarius Sneed, who forced the fumble.
“What a play by Sneed to prevent the TD ????,” the NFL’s new post read.
The odds are likely that this was nothing more than a simple mistake in the moment with no ill intentions, but the internet never forgets.
The Ravens trailed 17-7 at the time when Flowers caught a pass from Lamar Jackson and bolted toward the end zone on the first play of the fourth quarter.

Flowers made the mistake of diving for the goal line and that allowed Snead to knock the ball loose and the Chiefs recovered the ball.
Scoring there would have changed the complexion of the game, especially since the Chiefs didn’t score in the second half, but that fumble took the life out of the stadium.
The ironic part of the NFL’s tweet is the previous tweet before the deleted one features “BIG PLAY ZAY,” following his 54-yard grab that put Baltimore at Kansas City’s 25-yard line; he lost 15 yards due to a taunting penalty after the catch.
Flowers led Baltimore with five catches for 115 yards and one touchdown Sunday – falling just one yard shy of matching Chiefs tight end and Taylor Swift’s boyfriend Travis Kelce for the game-high – but that fumble is what will be remembered from his first AFC Championship game.
