Roughly 18 months ago, Brock Purdy was only “Mr. Irrelevant.”
Now, he’s officially in the driver’s seat to win NFL MVP.
Purdy has soared into clear favorite status (-200) to be named MVP on BetMGM Sportsbook, way ahead of Lamar Jackson, who has the second-best odds at +500.
One bettor was apparently smarter than everyone else this season, placing a $2,000 bet on Purdy to win MVP prior to the season and likely when Purdy had an uncertain future following his offseason elbow surgery.
The bet would win $200,000 if Purdy is named MVP.
The bettor is selling the ticket on Prop Swap — a site that lets you buy and sell betting tickets — for $100,000, giving the purchaser +100 odds on Purdy winning MVP.
Darren Rovell reported the individual was offered $90,000 for the ticket, which was declined.
Rightfully so, too.
At current odds, the true value of the ticket is $133,333.
The seller, who wants $100,000, is giving any buyer a 16.67 edge relative to current odds, which, as we mentioned, are down to -200.
Prior to this week, Purdy was second behind Dak Prescott in MVP odds.
But Prescott’s poor showing against the Bills on Sunday is the central linchpin in this equation.
Prescott was +150 to win the NFL MVP award, slightly better odds than Purdy at +175.
Interestingly enough, Fanatics Sportsbook was the only shop not to enlist Prescott as the favorite last week, keeping Purdy steady at the top despite Prescott’s impressive performance against the Eagles.

Prescott’s stock has since dropped after he looked abysmal in the Cowboys’ 31-10 loss to the Bills, throwing for 134 yards and an interception.
The lone Dallas touchdown was on a handoff to wide receiver CeeDee Lamb.
Meanwhile, Jackson’s Ravens (11-3) can’t stop winning and he has moved ahead of Prescott in the odds.
He put up more substantial rushing numbers Sunday in a 23-7 win over the Jaguars, carrying the ball 12 times for 97 yards and hitting budding tight end Isaiah Likely for a touchdown.
The conversation is going to continue to heat up as both Jackson and Purdy profile as having some of the best team success in the NFL this season.

The MVP race will likely be decided on Christmas Day when the Ravens match up with the 49ers for one of the biggest primetime “Monday Night Football” showdowns in years.
The 49ers are 5.5-point favorites against the Ravens at FanDuel, with Baltimore coming in at +198 on the moneyline.
