As training camp gets underway, The Post’s NFC East primer:
Coach: Mike McCarthy (fourth year)
Training camp site: Oxnard, Calif.
Key additions: When a team’s two big weaknesses are both sides of the passing attack, trading for WR Brandin Cooks and CB Stephon Gilmore is a smart way to improve.
First-round rookie DT Mazi Smith fills a longtime run-stuffing hole on a vaunted pass-rushing front.
RB Ronald Jones III and DT Ben Banogu are supplemental additions.
Key losses: Ezekiel Elliott’s release was the start of a miserable offseason for NFL running backs.
TE Dalton Schultz’s departure creates a void that wasn’t properly addressed.
He wound up in Houston with fellow cross-state transplant WR Noah Brown.
Guard Connor McGovern left a hole on a line in flux at two spots.
Training camp storylines to watch: McCarthy scapegoated offensive coordinator Kellen Moore and now will call plays himself.
Will he build an offense that gets QB Dak Prescott back on track after he had an NFL-leading 15 interceptions in just 12 games last season?
“Anyone on Earth” is a candidate to be the kicker. Tristan Vizcaino will get the first crack.
Life after Elliott begins with RB Tony Pollard running on a franchise tag.
Whether he benefits from the same blocking dominance as Elliott remains to be seen.
OT Tyronn Smith’s health is a big factor.
Coach: Brian Daboll (second year)
Training camp site: East Rutherford, N.J.
Key additions: TE Darren Waller is expected to be the Giants’ top pass-catcher. DTs Rakeem Nunez-Roches and A’Shawn Robinson, and MLB Bobby Okereke need to fix a leaky run defense.
The Giants got faster on both sides of the ball with WRs Parris Campbell and Jalin Hyatt, and first-round rookie CB Deonte Banks.
Second-round C John Michael Schmitz could start.
Key losses: As is always the case, the offensive line is in flux. Jon Feliciano and Nick Gates departed, leaving C and LG open for competition.
Replacing S Julian Love’s team-high 1,226 snaps across defense and special teams will require multiple players.
Leading receiver Richie James and starting CB Fabian Moreau are underappreciated losses.
At least WR Kenny Golladay’s contract albatross is mostly off the books.
Training camp storylines to watch: When will franchise-tagged Saquon Barkley show up?
The Giants and Barkley didn’t agree on an extension before the deadline, so there is little reason for him to join his teammates before September.
No longer able to meet expectations by just protecting the ball, every throw by QB Daniel Jones will be under the microscope as he tries to live up to a $40 million per year contract.
A deep WR corps is battling for roster spots.
What will a tight end-centric offense look like in terms of Wallers’ pre-snap alignments?
Coach: Nick Sirianni (third year)
Training camp site: Philadelphia
Key additions: What a draft weekend for the Eagles — who bolstered a deep defensive line with first-rounders Jalen Carter and Nolan Smith, and traded a future fourth-rounder for RB D’Andre Swift.
All of their free-agent additions signed one-year deals — including RB Rashaad Penny, QB Marcus Mariota, S Terrell Edmunds and OLB Nicholas Murrow.
Key losses: If you can’t beat them, steal their free agents.
The rest of the NFL picked the salary-cap-strapped Eagles clean of seven starters — DT Javon Hargrave, G Isaac Seumalo, S Chauncey Gardner-Johnson, RB Miles Sanders, S Marcus Epps, and LBs T.J. Edwards and Kyzir White.
Not to mention backup QB Gardner Minshew.
Training camp storylines to watch: Carter, Smith, rookie CB Kelee Ringo, and second-year players Jordan Davis and Nakobe Dean won a national title together on a historic Georgia defense.
Are they ready to lead a new era and take some pressure off aging stars Brandon Graham, Fletcher Cox and Darius Slay?
One year ago, QB Jalen Hurts was fighting to prove he should be an NFL starter.
Now he has to live up to a $51 million per year contract.
Camp is for working out kinks under new coordinators Sean Desai (defense) and in-house promotion Brian Johnson (offense).
Coach: Ron Rivera (fourth year)
Training camp site: Ashburn, Va.
Key additions: The offensive line gained at least two new starters (C Nick Gates and RT Andrew Wylie) and maybe a third, in the versatile Trent Scott. If the Sam Howell experiment at QB backfires, career 48-game starter Jacoby Brissett is waiting in the wings. LB Cody Barton and rookie CB Emmanuel Forbes are the top new defensive pieces.
Key losses: QBs Carson Wentz and Taylor Heinicke give way to the 2022 third-stringer.
LB Cole Holcomb’s departure leaves a lot of tackles to be made up.
Guards Wes Scheitzer and Trai Turner, and C Shane Roullier are on the other end of the offensive line changes.
S Bobby McCain stayed in-division with the Giants.
Training camp storylines to watch: The biggest gamble in the NFL is Rivera’s plan to start Howell, a 2022 fifth-round pick who threw 19 passes as a rookie.
Is new owner Josh Harris the patient type when it comes to a first impression on fans? Or will he be bold?
In an unthinkable scenario after he was the 2020 Defensive Rookie of the Year, can Chase Young stay healthy enough to salvage his career from 1.5 sacks in 12 games over the past two seasons combined?
Offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy gets a proving ground minus Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes.
