Where to Stream:

The Gilded Age

Powered by Reelgood

All the gloriously soapy historical drama you long for is back with the return of The Gilded Age on Max this weekend! Also among this weekend’s new arrivals on streaming at the new Netflix family drama The Waterfront, and the arrival of Sonic The Hedgehog 3 on Prime Video and A Minecraft Movie on Max.

Not sure which new releases to check out? Let us here at Decider help you figure out what to watch this weekend and where to stream it.

Family legacy is everything in this weekend’s new releases. On the new Netflix drama The Waterfront, which arrived Friday, a rugged North Carolina family struggles to keep their family name from tarnishing, while on Max’s The Gilded Age, a group of 1890s New Yorkers keep plotting ways to grow their family wealth and ascend the social strata. And of course, in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 – which arrives on Prime Video this week – the Robotnik family’s evil-doctor legacy is at stake as the Eggman and his grandfather team up to destroy Sonic and his pals.

The Waterfront, created by screenwriter Kevin Williamson, is loosely based on a true story (although Netflix hasn’t revealed what that true story is). The new series follows the Buckley family who helmed a reputable fishing company in Havenport, North Carolina but have fallen on hard times. With patriarch Harlan Buckley (Holt McCallany) in poor health, his wife Belle (Maria Bello) and son Cane (Jake Weary) are forced to turn their family’s sinking ship around.

Let’s see, where did we leave off when we last saw The Gilded Age? Aunt Ada (Cynthia Nixon) just realized she’d inherited her dead husband’s fortune, Bertha Russell (Carrie Coon) was scheming to marry off daughter Bertha (Taissa Farmiga), and Marian Brook (Louisa Jacobson) and Larry Russell (Harry Richardson) were starting to explore becoming neighbors with benefits. With season three kicking off this week, we’re going to finally see where these stories, and many others, actually go. The Gilded Age will air weekly on HBO and Max on Sundays.

Keanu Reeves joined the Sonic-verse as Shadow the Hedgehog in Sonic The Hedgehog 3 (and why, not? He was pretty great as Duke Caboom in Toy Story 4). After arriving to Earth on a meteorite, Shadow becomes a part of a secret government program called Project Shadow run by Dr. Gerald Robotnik, (Jim Carrey, who plays both Gerald and his grandson Ivo Robotnik in the film). After spending decades in suspended animation, a vengeful Shadow is unleashed and faces off against Team Sonic who are sent to capture him. Sonic 3 has been available on digital since January but it arrived on Prime Video this Friday.

The options above only scratch the surface, so you know that this weekend’s full lineup will have amazing options for what to watch this weekend!
