This weekend’s new drops on streaming include some great summer films filled with action, thrills, and vampires, too. Ryan Coogler’s Sinners has come to HBO Max, so if you didn’t catch it in theaters, there’s no better way to spend July 4th than with some Southern vampires. On Prime Video, check out John Cena and Idris Elba as world leaders-turned-action heroes in Heads of State, and on Netflix, Charlize Theron and Uma Thurman go head to head in The Old Guard 2.
Not sure which new releases to check out? Let us here at Decider help you figure out what to watch this weekend and where to stream it.
Sinners has been lauded as one of the best films of the year so far, and now you can catch it at home – the Warner Bros. film is now available on HBO Max. Back at the start of the pandemic, Netflix released the action film The Old Guard, based on the graphic novels by Greg Rucka and Leandro Fernández, starring Charlize Theron as the leader of a band of mercenaries. Five years later, The Old Guard 2 is finally here. And on Prime Video, John Cena and Idris Elba form the action-comedy duo we never knew we needed in Heads of State, which came out on Wednesday.
Written and directed by filmmaker Ryan Coogler, Sinners stars Michael B. Jordan in dual roles as twin brothers Smoke and Stack Moore, who return to their Mississippi hometown in the 1930s. Once they’re back, they discover a sinister, supernatural evil lurking there. The film, which arrived to Max on Friday, co-stars Hailee Steinfeld, Miles Caton, Wunmi Mosaku and Jack O’Connell.
Charlize Theron, KiKi Layne, Henry Golding and the rest of the Old Guard are back for the sequel to Netflix’s 2020 action hit. The Old Guard 2 arrived this week on Netflix and sees Theron’s Andy, an immortal mercenary, not only facing her own mortality, but a new foe, too, in the form of Uma Thurman.
John Cena and Idris Elba co-star in the new action comedy Heads of State as a U.S. President and U.K. Prime Minister who don’t get along. Diplomacy hangs in the balance as these two knuckleheads bicker, but they find themselves forced to come together when they both become targets of a foreign adversary threatening them. Turns out, when they work together they can actually kick some butt.
The options above only scratch the surface, so you know that this weekend’s full lineup will have amazing options for what to watch this weekend!
