No matter what streaming service you check out this weekend, there are star-studded new releases on all of them. From Apple TV+’s A-list anthology series Extrapolations to Hulu’s Boston Strangler, there are prestige dramas aplenty this week. And over on Netflix, beloved fantasy Shadow and Bone returns for a new season that’s based on the second book in the YA book series of the same name.
With so many great new shows and films to choose from, let us here at Decider help you figure out what to watch this weekend and where to stream it.
Not content to simply drop a new season of Ted Lasso on us this week, Apple TV+ is also releasing the brand new series Extrapolations, a limited anthology series set in the not-so-distant future where the world tries to reinvent itself after being ravaged by the effects of climate change. Over on Hulu, Keira Knightley and Carrie Coon play a pair of journalists who team up to do what those Zodiac good-for-nothings never could, find the identity of a serial killer in Boston Strangler. And on Netflix, Shadow and Bone returns to expand the Grishaverse even more with a new eight-episode season.

Extrapolations is the new, star-studded anthology series on Apple TV+ created by writer Scott Z. Burns, who is known for his collaborations with Steven Soderbergh on films like Contagion, The Informant! and Side Effects. Among the many celebs appearing in Extrapolations are Meryl Streep, Kit Harington, Sienna Miller, Edward Norton, and Diane Lane. The eight-episode series features interwoven episodes with a central theme of climate change, and how it will affect every aspect of our lives in the coming decades.
Netflix’s Shadow and Bone is the adaptation of the books in author Leigh Bardugo’s Grishaverse, and the story follows Alina Starkov, an orphan who discovers she is a Sun Summoner, one who possesses a special power that gives her the ability to control light. While the first season of the series was an adaptation of the book Shadow and Bone, the new season, which premiered this Thursday, adapts the second book in Bardugo’s series, Siege and Storm. All eight episodes of the new season are available to binge now.
In Hulu’s new film Boston Strangler, Keira Knightley plays reporter Loretta McLaughlin, who worked alongside her colleague Jean Cole (Carrie Coon) to reveal the identity of the Boston Strangler serial killer in the early 1960s. The pair, working for the Boston Record American, uncovered the details of the killer’s crimes and were responsible for coining the nickname the “Boston Strangler,” and not only faces sexism from their colleagues while in pursuit of the killer, they also put their lives at risk to uncover the truth.
