A new spy series from Taylor Sheridan, Special Ops: Lioness, and the return of two fan favorites, Minx and Sweet Magnolias, are among the new TV shows available to stream this weekend.
Not sure which new releases to check out? Let us here at Decider help you figure out what to watch this weekend and where to stream it.
The 1970’s-set Minx is back in all its shag rug and shag haircut glory this week, but take note, the second season of the series has moved from Max to Starz. Over on Paramount+, the new prestige action thriller Special Ops: Lioness, which co-stars Zoe Saldaña and Nicole Kidman, will premiere it’s first episode, with new episodes airing weekly after that. And on Netflix, you can binge your way through the third season of the hit drama Sweet Magnolias which also returned this week.
Minx has been throttled around for the last couple of years, first airing on HBO Max and then getting cancelled before the already-filmed second season could air. Thankfully, Starz has brought the series back, which means we’ll get to see what happens when Joyce Prigger (Ophelia Lovibond) has to maintain the success of her Playgirl-like womens’ magazine, Minx, and find a new publisher for it after her publishing partner Doug Renetti (Jake Johnson) handed the reins over to her at the end of last season.
Special Ops: Lioness is a brand-new Taylor Sheridan series, one that has nothing to do with Yellowstone. In the new series, Zoe Saldaña plays Joe, a CIA operative in a program called Lioness, run by Nicole Kidman’s character, Kaitlyn Meade and their team has to prevent a terrorist attack as it unfolds. The impressive cast also includes Morgan Freeman, Locke and Key‘s Laysla De Oliveira, and Michael Kelly.
Our three favorite southern gals, Helen (Heather Headley) Dana Sue (Brooke Elliott), and Maddie (JoAnna Garcia Swisher) are back for a new season of the margarita-filled drama Sweet Magnolias., Maybe this season we’ll find out if Helen’s going to accept Ryan’s proposal, if Cal is going to jail, or why Dana Sue just inherited a whole bunch of money. Yeesh, it’s always something in Serenity, SC.
