Whether you’re in the mood for prestige drama, provocative exposés, or a solid, comforting comedy binge, this weekend is stacked with great new shows on every streaming platform.
Not sure which new releases to check out? Let us here at Decider help you figure out what to watch this weekend and where to stream it.
Not only is a new season of Girls5eva arriving to Netflix this week, but the first two seasons which had previously only been available on Peacock, are also now on Netflix. Now in tour mode, this season focuses on the girl group as they try to build an audience one mid-sized city at a time. The worst part about this new season is that it’s a mere 6 episodes. Over on Apple TV+, you can get into binge mode with the addictive new series Apples Never Fall, a prestige drama from the mind of author Liane Moriarty starring Annette Bening and Sam Neill. And on Max, you can stream the docu-series Quiet On Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV, an expose about the predatory work environment that existed around Nickelodeon’s childrens’ shows during the reign of executive Dan Schneider.
Liane Moriarty is the reigning queen of book-to-limited series adaptations. The Australian novelist has seen her previous works like Nine Perfect Strangers and Big Little Lies become star-studded TV events, and Apples Never Fall is the latest of her novels to get the same treatment. The new Peacock series stars Annette Bening as a family matriarch who goes missing, leaving her husband (Sam Neill) and four children (Alison Brie, Jake Lacy, Conor Merrigan-Turner, and Essie Randles) to reckon with some dark family secrets. All seven episodes of Apples Never Fall are available to binge on March 14.
If you haven’t seen the show that gave the world such gems as “New York Lonely Boy” and “Cease and Desist, Bitches” now’s the time to binge every episode of Girls5eva. The show about a washed up ’90s girl group trying to make a comeback in their 40s was created by Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt writer Meredith Scardino and features music written by (Mr. Tina Fey) Jeff Richmond. Starring Sara Bareilles, Renee Elise Goldsberry, Paula Pell and Busy Philipps, the show is a worthy heir to 30 Rock, filled with bonkers characters, rapid-fire jokes, and pop culture references that get better with every re-watch.
We’ve always heard about the rumors of what has gone on behind the scenes at certain children’s television shows, and now the reckoning might finally be arriving in the form of the new Investigation Discovery docu-series Quiet On Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV. The show exposes the harassing and abusive behavior of Dan Schneider, the man behind many of Nickelodeon’s most successful shows, and other predators who were allowed to work on sets alongside the child actors who starred in some of your favorite shows. The documentary will air over the course of two nights, March 17 and 18.
The options above only scratch the surface, so you know that this weekend’s full lineup will have amazing options for what to watch this weekend!
