This weekend on streaming, we’ve got the Snyder cut of Netflix’s Rebel Moon saga, the season two finale of House of the Dragon on Max, and the streaming premiere of one of this year’s biggest films, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, which arrives on Hulu.
Not sure which new releases to check out? Let us here at Decider help you figure out what to watch this weekend and where to stream it.
Netflix is releasing the lengthier, more complete vision of writer and director Zack Snyder’s space saga Rebel Moon this week – parts one and two are now out on the platform. On HBO and Max, you can tune in to a new, candid documentary about Elizabeth Taylor called Elizabeth Taylor: The Lost Tapes when that premieres Saturday night at 8 p.m. ET. (And don’t forget to tune in to the season finale of House of the Dragon on Max on Sunday, too.) And Hulu has the streaming release of one of the year’s biggest box office hits, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.
“Zack Snyder” and “Director’s Cut” are basically synonymous at this point, and this week, Snyder’s dropping extended versions of his 2023 two-part epic Rebel Moon (complete with new titles just to keep things confusing: these versions are now called Rebel Moon – Part One: Chalice of Blood and Rebel Moon – Part Two: Curse of Forgiveness) and they promise over an hour of additional features.
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is the direct sequel to 2017’s War for the Planet of the Apes and stars Owen Teague as Noa, a chimpanzee hunter whose clan is decimated by a group of rival apes. Noa and the surviving apes join up with a human named Mae (Freya Allan) so that they can return both their ape and human civilizations to peace. It arrives on Hulu this week.
In the new HBO documentary Elizabeth Taylor: The Lost Tapes, over 40 hours of rarely-heard interview tapes were unearthed and turned into a film that explores the real life and personality of one of Hollywood’s most enigmatic actresses, Elizabeth Taylor. The tapes, which Taylor recorded in 1964 during an extensive interview with journalist Richard Meryman, serve as a narration in this film about her life and career.
Will Daemon (Matt Smith) successfully usurp Rhaenyra’s (Emma D’Arcy) claim to the throne? Will Rhaenyra’s new dragon army be enough to defeat Vhagar? What’s going to happen with that one ball everyone keeps playing with during high council meetings? Some – but probably not all – of these questions will be answered on the House of the Dragon season two finale when it airs this Sunday night at 9 p.m. ET on HBO and Max.
The options above only scratch the surface, so you know that this weekend’s full lineup will have amazing options for what to watch this weekend!
