Whether you’re in the mood for holiday movies or A-list blockbusters, there are tons of new titles out this week that have got you covered.
Not sure which new releases to check out? Let us here at Decider help you figure out what to watch this weekend and where to stream it.
Do the holidays fill you with cheer, or a sense of dread? If it’s the latter, why not pile on the despair and check out Netflix’s Leave The World Behind? The star-studded film features Julia Roberts, Ethan Hawke, and Mahershala Ali in an apocalyptic nightmare. If you need something a touch more upbeat, check out Prime Video’s Your Christmas or Mine 2, a rom-com about two families whose Christmas holiday gets turned upside down. And for the kids, Disney+ has Diary of a Wimpy Kid Christmas: Cabin Fever, featuring the antics of the Heffley family.
Writer-director Sam Esmail’s newest project, Leave The World Behind, is based on the novel of the same name by Rumaan Alam, and it brings together Julia Roberts, Mahershala Ali, and Ethan Hawke for an apocalyptic thrill ride. Combining conspiracy theories with racial tension, references to Friends, and our modern reliance on technology, the film would be a complete anxiety nightmare if it weren’t so well-crafted.
There are plenty of Christmas-themed rom-coms available on every streaming platform (not to mention the Hallmark Channel and GAF) and this week, our must-watch pick is Your Christmas or Mine 2. A sequel to the delightful Your Christmas or Mine?, the film reunites Sex Education‘s Asa Butterfield and Cora Kirk as a couple whose families plan to have Christmas together in the Alps, but things don’t go as planned. Jane Krakowski, David Bradley, and Daniel Mays co-star.
If the kids have run out of festive specials to watch, consider the new Wimpy Kid installment on Disney+, Diary of a Wimpy Kid Christmas: Cabin Fever. The animated film is the seventh film based on the books of Jeff Kinney, and is based on his Cabin Fever book. In this one, Greg Heffley (voiced by Wesley Kimmel) and his best pal Rowley (Spencer Howell) can’t help but get involved in some light, snowball-related crime as Christmas approaches, jeopardizing Greg’s chances at receiving a coveted video game system for Christmas.
The options above only scratch the surface, so you know that this weekend’s full lineup will have amazing options for what to watch this weekend!
