NextImg:New Shows & Movies To Watch This Weekend: HBO Max’s ‘Task’ + More

There are shows and movies of all kinds arriving to streaming this weekend, from crime dramas to reality competitions and so much more. On HBO Max, you can tune into the premiere of Task from the writer and creator of Mare of Easttown, while you can catch a new season of The Great British Baking Show over on Netflix. On Peacock, White Lotus star Sabrina Impacciatore heads up the ensemble cast of The Paper, and on Apple TV+, tune into Spike Lee’s newest film, Highest 2 Lowest, starring Denzel Washington.

Not sure which new releases to check out? Let us here at Decider help you figure out what to watch this weekend and where to stream it.

If you’re looking for a new prestige series to tear into, Mark Ruffalo and Tom Pelphrey star in the new HBO Max crime series Task which premieres on the platform this Sunday night. Also out this week is Peacock’s The Paper, the Office spin-off that takes place at a flailing local newspaper in Ohio. And for pure comfort, a new season of The Great British Baking Show has arrived on Netflix with all our favorite hosts and a new batch of contestants.

If you’re like me and you’ve been waiting for a show as good as Mare of Easttown to drop, here’s hoping that Mare creator Brad Ingelsby’s new series Task will fill the void. The new show stars Mark Ruffalo as a Philadelphia FBI agent who heads a task force searching for the man responsible for a violent string of robberies (played by Tom Pelphrey). The cat-and-mouse series consists of seven episodes; the premiere arrives this Sunday, Sept. 7, and new episodes air weekly.

The Office showrunner Greg Daniels has returned with a new series in the same style as that beloved sitcom, The Paper, which arrived on Peacock this Thursday. The mockumentary-style show co-stars Sabrina Impacciatore, Domhnall Gleeson, Oscar Nuñez and Alex Edelman (among others) and all 10 episodes are available to binge now.

Nothing says autumnal cozy comfort quite like Battenbergs and rough puffs and Paul Hollywood’s thick finger plunging in and out of under-proved dough. Yes, The Great British Baking Show returns this week with Paul, Prue Leith, Noel Fielding and Alison Hammond and 12 of Britain’s finest home bakers competing for an engraved cake plate and bragging rights. The new season, called Collection 13 on Netflix, will consist of 10 episodes that air weekly on Fridays until Nov. 7.

The options above only scratch the surface, so you know that this weekend’s full lineup will have amazing options for what to watch this weekend!
