Whether you’re in the mood for a date movie, a psychological drama, or political thriller, this weekends new releases are filled with serious star power, from Chris Evans and Ana de Armas in Ghosted, to Keri Russell in The Diplomat to Rachel Weisz in Dead Ringers.
With so many great new shows and films to choose from, let us here at Decider help you figure out what to watch this weekend and where to stream it.
Chris Evans and Ana de Armas first appeared onscreen together in Knives Out in 2019, and they’ve reunited for Apple TV+’s action-packed movie Ghosted, where Evans plays a man who learns his new girlfriend (de Armas) is actually a secret agent. In Netflix’s new series The Diplomat, Keri Russell has a similarly high-pressure job, working as a diplomat who finds herself in over her head after taking on a new assignment. Over on Prime Video. Rachel Weisz stars in Dead Ringers, a six-part series that’s a new take on the 1988 David Cronenberg film of the same name.
Keri Russell leads a stellar cast that includes Rufus Sewell, Nana Mensah, Michael McKean, and Ato Essandoh, in The Diplomat, which premiered Thursday. In the political thriller, Russell stars as Kate Wyler, who has been appointed as the new U.S. Ambassador to the United Kingdom. The role is more difficult than Kate anticipated, and as she navigates her new assignment, which is fraught with threats from abroad, she also finds her marriage to husband Hal (Sewell), a former diplomat who can’t help but analyze her every move, is tested.
In David Cronenberg’s 1988 film Dead Ringers, Jeremy Irons played twin gynecologists named Beverly and Elliot Mantle, whose identities began to blur together as they shared lovers and swapped identities. In the new Prime Video series of the same name, Rachel Weisz assumed the roles that Irons originally played, putting a female-forward spin on the story while also creating a new, creepy dynamic of danger and co-dependence that the twins have to live with. All six episodes of Dead Ringers will be available to watch on Friday.
Apple TV+’s new original movie Ghosted stars Chris Evans as Cole, an average guy who falls in love with the charming Sadie (Ana de Armas) after their first date, but Sadie ghosts him, never to be heard from again. In a romantic display, Cole travels to London to find her and quickly learns that there’s a reason Sadie was so shady: she was keeping her true identity as a C.I.A. operative secret. But now, Sadie’s on a mission, and now Cole is all tangled up in that mission, too. That’s one helluva second date!
