This week’s new movies on VOD include Al Pacino as a demon-exorcising priest in The Ritual, and the vacation-gone-terribly-wrong dark comedy I Don’t Understand You, starring Nick Kroll and Andrew Rannells. Also out this week is the action-thriller Off The Grid.
Off The Grid stars Josh Duhamel as a scientist on the run after his employers decide that his latest invention, a powerful generator, would make a great weapon. After going off the grid to protect his research, his employers (played by Peter Stormare and Greg Kinnear) have him tracked down so they can kill him. Not so fast, evil employers! Duhamel’s got brains and muscles, too, this is not going to be an easy fight.

Add Al Pacino and Dan Stevens to the list of respected actors compelled (by the power of Christ?) to play exorcist-happy priests. The pair co-star in The Ritual, available now on VOD, as priests who travel to a rural Iowa town circa 1928 when they learn of a young woman whose recent behavior points to a possible demonic possession. Pacino plays Theophilus Riesinger and Stevens portrays Father Joseph Steiger; both men are based on real people who gained notoriety when Steiger published his account of their experiences performing the ritual that drove the Devil out of Iowa.
Big Mouth co-stars Nick Kroll and Andrew Rannells collaborate once again for the new comedy I Don’t Understand You. The pair star as Dom and Cole, a couple who are celebrating their babymoon – their soon-to-be-adopted baby is about to be born – by vacationing in Italy. The trip ends up being a disaster, though, and the darkly funny movie veers into horror when some of the Italians they cross paths with end up dead. Amanda Seyfriend and The Gilded Age‘s Morgan Spector also appear.
