New on VOD

There are certain actor-director relationships you can always count on in Hollywood, and Guy Ritchie and Jason Statham‘s partnership has produced reliably fun, often ridiculous action movies since the 1990s. The duo recently teamed up again for Operation Fortune: Ruse De Guerre, one of the many new movies on VOD this week, and they threw Aubrey Plaza and Hugh Grant into the mix because why not make the press tour for your film as fun as humanly possible?

Also out this week is Wildflower, the story of a girl named Bea (played by Kiernan Shipka) who is grappling with going to college, or staying behind to care for her two neurodivergent parents. Alexandra Daddario, Jean Smart, Charlie Plummer, and Reid Scott co-star. And the newly-released documentary Kubrick By Kubrick, features interviews with the legendary but often elusive film director who died in 1999, as well as many of his collaborators. Kubrick did not grant interviews often, so for many fans of films like 2001: A Space Odyssey and The Shining, hearing him speak to interviewer Michael Ciment will provide rare and sometimes surprising insight into his process.

These are just a few of the titles that are available to watch on Amazon Prime Video, iTunes, YouTube, and through your cable service this week. Check out what movies are available to buy or rent on demand now!

In Guy Ritchie’s Operation Fortune: Ruse De Guerre, Jason Statham plays a spy named Orson Fortune (of course), who will stop at nothing to stop an arms dealer (Hugh Grant) from selling a mysterious , people-pulverizing weapon called The Handle. To do that, he assembles a rag-tag team to pull off the job, and that team includes our deadpan girl Aubrey Plaza as a hacker, Josh Hartnett as a celebrity to be used as bait for their heist, and rapper Bugzy Malone who’s the resident sniper, in case people need to be sniped. It’s classic Guy Ritchie fare rolled into a spy flick, which is to say, it’s like Mission Impossible‘s long lost cheeky British cousin.

In Wildflower, Kiernan Shipka stars as Bea, a young woman whose parents are both intellectually disabled. Raised by her extended family, played by (among others) Jacki Weaver, Jean Smart, and Brad Garrett, she struggles to be a normal young woman and prepare herself for life beyond her parents, whom she cares for. If heartfelt coming-of-age stories are where your head is at this weekend, check out Wildflower, which is available now.
