This week there are loads of great new movies on VOD just in time for a relaxing long weekend. You can catch the family-friendly Harold and the Purple Crayon, Josh Hartnett in M. Night Shyamalan’s Trap, and Emma Stone’s latest collab with Yorgos Lanthimos, Kinds of Kindness.
Also on demand this week is Borderlands, the Eli Roth film based on the video game series of the same name. Borderlands stars Cate Blanchett as as Lillith, an outlaw bounty hunter who joins forces with a team of misfits to find the missing daughter of the most powerful man in the universe. The ensemble cast includes Jack Black, Jamie Lee Curtis, Gina Gershon, and Ariana Greenblatt.
Yorgos Lanthimos’s follow-up to Poor Things is Kinds of Kindness, an anthology film consisting of three shorts, all of which star Emma Stone, Jesse Plemons, Willem Dafoe, Margaret Qualley, Hong Chau, Joe Alwyn, and Mamoudou Athie in different roles. The film arrived on demand Tuesday and you can also catch it on Hulu on Friday, August 30.
Written and directed by Shyamalan, Trap stars Josh Hartnett as Cooper, a cool, normal dad who also happens to be a sociopathic serial killer. Cooper takes his daughter Riley (Ariel Donoghue) to a concert for her favorite singer, Lady Raven (played by Saleka Night Shyamalan). When he realizes the concert is a trap set by the FBI to capture him, he has only the duration of the concert to find an escape.
