NextImg:New ‘Hunger Games’ book ‘Sunrise on the Reaping’ is selling out—Read it now for $1

One of the most anticipated books of the entire year, “Sunrise on the Reaping” by Suzanne Collins, is here — and it’s getting harder and harder to get your hands on a copy.

“Sunrise on the Reaping” is the fifth book in Collins’ massively popular “Hunger Games” series and acts as a prequel to Katniss’ story by exploring her mentor, Haymitch Abernathy, and his time in the arena during the 50th annual Hunger Games — also known as the 2nd Quarter Quell.

Haymitch’s story has always been of interest to the fans, so it’s safe to say readers have been waiting a while for this one. But with anticipation comes another thing: long library waitlists.

If you’re the kind of person who relies solely on the library (or the library’s digital equivalent, Libby), it might be months before you get to read the book everyone’s talking about now.

When looking at Libby, we found that the New York Public Library has 250 copies, with 3,166 people having to wait up to 26 weeks to get their hands on one. Queens Public Library cardholders will have to wait “several months” as there are 298 holds on just 10 copies; Brooklyn Public Library has more copies (83), but 879 holds. It still equals a 22-week wait.

It just so happens that Amazon is having a Big Spring Sale right now, so let us let you in on a money-saving secret that’ll bypass all of those waitlists for a great low price.

Right now, Audible (the audiobook platform from Amazon) is running a deal that’ll get you three audiobooks over three months for just $0.99/month. That’s right — you can read “Sunrise on the Reaping” for a dollar (plus two other books!). However, Audible’s classic one-month free trial is also available, so you can choose the discounted starter plan that works best for you.

Either way, you won’t pay more than $1 for “Sunrise on the Reaping” and you can start reading it today.

If you prefer your books physical, you can get deals on deals when picking up a new copy of “Sunrise on the Reaping.” Not only is it 30% off the list price, but the book is also included in a “get three for the price of two” promotion currently running on most books, DVDs, Blu-rays, and albums.

The “Hunger Games” novel that precedes “Sunrise on the Reaping,” “The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes” is one of the thousands of qualifying items. You can also add a gorgeous, limited edition four-book set that includes the first four “Hunger Games” novels, for 47% off + the BOGO promo.

“The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes” was adapted into a film released in November 2023; it stars Tom Blyth as Coriolanus Snow, the future president of Panem, and Rachel Zegler as Lucy Gray Baird, Snow’s mentee and love interest.

“The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes” is currently part of the Starz streaming library, and as part of the Amazon Big Spring Sale, you can get your first three months of Starz for $1.99/month when you subscribe via Prime Video Channels.

The Big Spring Sale is an Amazon-hosted seasonal sale event aimed at popular products to shop for spring. It’s similar to Amazon Prime Day, offering a wide range of deals and discounts on various products, spanning the final week of March.

Shoppers have 7 days to take advantage of discounts. This sale runs a full week, beginning at 12 a.m. PT on Tuesday, March 25, through 11:59 p.m. PT on Monday, March 31.

The Big Spring Sale ends March 31 at 11:59 p.m. Pacific time, so east-coasters have until about 3 a.m. on April 1 their time to shop the deals.

Unlike Prime Day, the Spring Sale is open to all Amazon shoppers. However, Prime members will enjoy exclusive deals and early access to certain promotions. Interested shoppers can grab a 30-day free trial to try Prime, and its many benefits, with no strings attached.

From reporting on Amazon sales throughout the years, we can tell you for certain that it’s the ideal period to upgrade your outdoor furniture, restock spring cleaning supplies, find new spring fashion pieces and comb through the massive catalog of Amazon best-sellers.

Already wondering when the next Amazon Prime Day is? Prime Day takes place in July each year. While Amazon hasn’t confirmed the dates for Prime Day 2025, it’s safe to assume it will take place in mid-July — similar to previous years.
