When The Big Bang Theory ended its run in 2019, it left a large, black hole-sized void in the schedules of TV fans everywhere. Little did they know that the show’s cancellation would spark a media juggernaut.

A Max spinoff is reportedly in the works featuring three characters from the original CBS series, played by Kevin Sussman, Brian Posehn and Lauren Lapkus, per Entertainment Weekly. Though the series has not been officially greenlit, the three actors have holding deals in place.

While there are no details available about the plot of the series yet, viewers can expect it to give the side characters some much deserved time in the spotlight.

Sussman’s character, Stuart Bloom, the owner of a local comic shop, was often on the fringes of the main group, with much of the comedy coming at his expense. In the final seasons, Stuart’s character evolved, highlighted by his budding romance with Denise, his assistant manager played by Laupkus. It’s unclear how Posehn’s character Bert Kibbler, a devoted geologist, will factor into the dynamic.

Luckily, the series will be in familiar hands. Chuck Lorre, the co-creator and executive producer of The Big Bang Theory, is also expected to return.

This won’t be the first time The Big Bang Theory has launched a spinoff. In 2017, the prequel Young Sheldon gave viewers an insight into Sheldon Cooper (Iain Armitage), a child prodigy growing up in 1990s Texas. After 7 seasons, the CBS hit wrapped up this May.

The series is also launching an offshoot of its own, Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, which is set to premiere on CBS next week on Oct. 17. The sitcom will follow another Cooper son, Georgie (Montana Jordan), and his wife, Mandy McAllister (Emily Osment), as they navigate parenthood.

While The Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon are available for streaming on Max, the proposed spinoff featuring Sussman, Posehn, and Lapkus would be the first original series in the franchise exclusively on streaming.
