Catfish: The TV Show returns to MTV tonight and its first fresh catch is yet another unsettling online relationship.
Tonight’s premiere episode “Shi & Mira,” follows Shi, whose “online love” Mira refuses to meet up with him, despite the fact that Shi believes the two of them both live in Philadelphia. Shi then seeks out the assistance of Catfish co-hosts Nev Schulman and Kamie Crawford to get to the bottom of it.
In an exclusive clip shared with Decider, Nev arrives at Kamie’s hotel room to reveal a new update on the situation.
“So I thought that Mira texted me back, but Mira has not responded,” Nev says. “It’s from a new number that says, ‘Hello, this is about Mira. Can you talk?'”
“What number is that?” Kamie asks.
“I don’t know!” Nev exclaims. “It’s just a new number.”
He then receives a call from the mysterious number, which he announces is from Levittown, Pennsylvania. When he asks who is on the other end, the caller reveals themself to be “Emoni, a friend of Mira’s.”
“Well I was just reaching out to ask you guys a couple questions about Shi,” Emoni continues. “So what is Shi like? Umm… is he gonna be cool with her?”
“I mean, look,” Nev responds. “We’ve already prepared Shi for the very real possibility that Mira is not who he thinks she is. He’s disappointed, but I don’t think he’s angry, and I think as long as, you know, she agrees to meet us, he’ll be as understanding as he can be.”
“Okay, well I’m gonna talk to her and see what she thinks… I can’t promise anything but um… I’ll text you in the morning and let you know. Alright?” Emoni says.
After they hang up the phone, Nev and Kamie both agree that Emoni isn’t Mira, but that she may have been with Mira while she was on the phone with them. Kamie explains that she thinks Emoni “had ‘Mira’ on speaker or like [she] was listening,” which caused an “echo” that both she and Nev heard on the other line.
“Basically, they wanna know, is Shi gonna be f**king pissed when this girl shows up, and she’s not at all who she claims to be,” Kamie says.
The dynamic duo decide to call Shi and let him know.
“I don’t know anyone named Emoni,” Shi shares after he hears the news.
After filling him in, the three hatch a plan for Shi to meet them at the hotel the next morning so that they “can all be together and roll out together.”
Kamie then stares into the camera and sums up the situation perfectly: “Mayhem!”
