Of all the bizarre moments we saw in the Love Island USA Season 7 reunion, Huda Mustafa claiming she’s legally bound by Netflix to not speak about her current relationship status left everyone—including co-hosts Ariana Madix and Andy Cohen—with the most questions.
Toward the beginning of the reunion episode—which aired Monday night (Aug. 25)—Madix asked Mustafa about her dating life following her viral breakup with Chris Seeley in the Season 7 finale. The 24-year-old fitness guru made headlines last month when she stepped out onto the red carpet at the Weapons premiere with fellow reality TV star Louis Russell. However, she told the co-hosts that she could not speak about her relationships outside the Love Island USA villa for “legal reasons.”
“It’s Netflix,” Mustafa claimed. “I’m not allowed to talk about it.”
Bewildered, Cohen asked, “Netflix won’t let you say whether you’re dating someone?” to which Mustafa replied, “I’m not supposed to talk about it, unfortunately. I’m sorry.”
Even when Cohen brought up that she was recently holding hands with someone (Russell) on a red carpet, Mustafa refused to comment further.
“I’m not allowed to speak on it, I’m sorry,” she reiterated, to which Cohen fired back, “OK. Tell Netflix this was the No.1 streaming show of the summer.”
While Mustafa refused to explain why she couldn’t speak about her relationship, some fans have speculated that her silence could have to do with Perfect Match Season 3, on which Russell was a contestant. At the time the Love Island USA reunion was filmed earlier this month, the third season had not yet finished airing on Netflix.
However, the streaming giant seemingly clapped back at Mustafa’s confusing claim by hilariously changing its X (formerly known as Twitter) bio to read, “DON’T @ ME IDK!!!”
Following the reunion, Mustafa shaded Cohen’s questioning in a message posted to her TikTok Story.
“I prefer to share details about my relationships on my own terms, not for a TV show it has nothing to do with,” she wrote. “Repeated pressure to open up, especially when it’s excessive, makes me uncomfortable, and I’d appreciate if that could be respected. But you’ll edit out the amount of times you asked and tried making others answer for me.”
The Love Island USA Season 7 reunion is currently streaming on Peacock.
