Netflix has reportedly canceled Break Point after just two seasons.
Created by the same production team behind Drive to Survive, which has materialized six successful seasons on the platform, the tennis docuseries failed to gain as much popularity.
According to The Times of London, the series is being canceled due to poor ratings and lack of access to some of the sport’s biggest stars.
Break Point was first announced by Netflix in January 2022, and Season 1 featured tennis stars Nick Kyrgios and Coco Gauff. The show was renewed for a second season in March 2023, which debuted on the platform in January 2024.
The producers, who have been used to having intimate access to figures on and off the track in Drive to Survive, reportedly became frustrated by not being able to feature a few big names. One such star was Novak Djokovic, who was barred from entering the Australian Open after refusing to get the COVID vaccine.
As a result, the outlet reports, the series is unlikely to return for a third season unless viewing figures significantly improve for Season 2.
At least Netflix has seen some success with its golf docuseries Full Swing, which is now in its second season, managing to cover the sport’s ongoing rivalry between the PGA Tour and the LIV circuit.
