Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban found himself trending on Twitter during Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals, and it wasn’t exactly due to the on-court action.
The Mavericks missed the playoffs in April — after Dallas sat its star players in a must-win against the Bulls — so many were curious about Cuban’s name trending, with many trolling him as “Narc Cuban.”
Shortly after tipoff, Cuban took to Twitter to ask his 8.8 million followers about illegal streaming.
“Got a personal question for everyone watching heats vs celts right now,” he wrote. “Who is watching on a pirated stream. I’m curious how prevalent it is.”
His tweet, which has over 34 million views as of Tuesday, drew fiery responses from NBA Twitter, with some accusing Cuban of trying to expose free streams.
Cuban also reposted a poll by another Twitter user that asked: “pirated stream” or “not pirated stream.”
It didn’t take long for the name “Narc Cuban” to begin making waves on social media.
It’s unclear why Cuban was asking about illegal streams, but the internet had a field day with trolling the “Shark Tank” star.
“Nice try FBI,” one person wrote, while another added, “Wildest question ever.”
The Celtics were blown out by the Heat, 103-84, in Game 7 at TD Garden on Monday night.
Boston was on the brink of making history as the first NBA team in 151 tries to win a playoff series after falling behind 3-0 — but injuries, turnovers and a reported stomach bug all played factors in the heartbreaking loss.
It’s the second year straight that Boston has come close but fallen short of hanging an 18th NBA title banner.
The Warriors topped the Celtics in six games in the NBA Finals last year.
Instead, it will be eighth-seeded Miami headed back to the NBA Finals for the second time in four years.
Game 1 is set for Thursday in the Mile High City at 8:30 p.m. ET with the Nuggets making their first NBA Finals appearance.
