Every rose has its thorns, and Naomi Osaka is ready to jab her U.S. Open competition out of her way.
The 2025 Floral Queen Naomi Osaka breezed past Belgian’s Greet Minnen 6-3, 6-4 in her opening match Tuesday night at Louis Armstrong Stadium, after the two-time Open winner debuted a sparkly red kit that completed a trio of flower-themed grand-slam outfits.
It took an hour and 23 minutes, but Osaka was steadfast in her performance that kicked off her 10th appearance at the star-studded event in Flushing.
Osaka, who had the crowd with her from the start, put forth a strong first set before grinding out the victory in the second.
In addition to committing nine unforced errors compared to Minnen’s 14 in the first, Osaka won all three of the breakpoints she earned while also blasting three aces.
Coming to the historic Billie Jean King National Tennis Center grounds with some momentum, after a strong summer culminated to falling two sets short of the Canadien Open title earlier this month, Osaka is looking to repeat her 2020 magic in Flushing.

Her new coach, Tomasz Wiktorowski, is said to have had a profound impact on Osaka since the two started working together in July.
