A grandmother who asked her neighbors to turn their music down was met with a wave of abuse in a confronting backyard fence dispute caught on camera.

New Zealand mother-of-four Katelyn Park took to TikTok to share footage of the ugly encounter.

“When my mom asked the neighbors to turn the music down because it was shaking the house,” Park captioned the clip.

The clip begins with Park’s mother standing at the fence.

“All I wanted… you can’t even have a decent conversation,” she can be heard saying as the fence is thumped and shaken by the impact of something from the other side.

A woman’s face can be seen looking over the fence as a man hurls abuse at her.

A young boy, one of Katelyn’s sons, can be heard in the video speaking to his mom as foul language rings out from the backyard.

Katelyn’s mom tries to approach the fence when a cup is thrown over there, the man hurling more abuse at the woman as Katelyn laughs.

Then a man in a grey T-shirt and blue shorts climbs up over the fence to yell more abuse at the mother, who has backed away into the yard.

“All I asked was for you to turn your music down a bit,” Katelyn yells out to them.

Her mother repeats her daughter’s words, holding a hand up to the man now leaning over the fence.

“All I asked was for you to turn your music down … and you can’t even do that,” she says.

A woman can be seen attempting to pull the man down from the fence as he continues to spray the grandmother – while Katelyn’s son asks for “another creaming soda”.

After the man is pulled down from the fence, Katelyn pans the camera to her left to see two more women climbing up the fence.

One of them appears to attempt to hoist her leg over before the video ends.

The video was posted on Sunday and has already gained more than 1.2 million views on TikTok, with many shocked by the neighbors’ obscene reaction.

“My gosh, some people got no respect for others,” one user wrote.

“I’m guilty for loud music but if my neighbors approached me and asked to turn it down I would,” another wrote.

In a follow-up video, Katelyn Park said a neighbor called the police to investigate the incident.

Many said it was about simple neighborly “respect” and applauded Price’s mother for standing her ground.

In a follow-up video, the mother replied to a comment saying the wild behavior must be “regular” for her son, judging by the way he asks for a soft drink while in the middle of the screaming match.

In another video posted to Katelyn’s TikTok account, more unintelligible angry yelling can be heard from the neighboring yard, which Katelyn said was happening “over $6”.

She said a neighbor called the police over the incident and the mom-of-four has attempted to get the New Zealand social housing service Kāinga Ora, which owns the house, to act on the tenants.

News.com.au has approached Kāinga Ora for comment.

Katelyn said she will be going to the tenancy tribunal over her neighbors.
