He’s a well-behaved dog — but only if you speak to him in the right accent.

After UK-based couple Jay Shore, 35, and Megan King, 33, brought their 6-month-old Rottweiler puppy Paddy over from Northern Ireland last year, they discovered he has a strange quirk.

Paddy, who lived with Irish-born King’s parents for several months before joining them in England, had learned basic commands from them — but for some reason wouldn’t obey if Shore gave them.

Hilarious footage of the pup shows him looking confused when Shore asks him to sit.

However, when Shore, an electrician, puts on a Northern Irish accent, the cheeky dog follows the command.

“My parents bought him for me because my dog passed away last year,” King, who moved to England in 2012, explained to Kennedy News and Media. “We were waiting for his vaccines to kick in before we brought him over, so he was brought up in a Northern Irish house with the accent.”

“He wasn’t responding and Jay suddenly wondered if it was because he was used to a Northern Irish accent,” King added with a laugh. “It was hilarious when we realized — we both nearly wet ourselves laughing.”

King said the dog still struggles with all commands from people unless they put on the accent.

“He won’t come in from the garden unless Jay says, ‘Come in now,’ in the accent,'” she giggled.

The couple is now trying to teach Paddy to follow hand signals to avoid any more confusion.

“Hopefully he’ll get used to Jay’s accent — and now we’ve realized what the issue is we can work on it,” she said.
