A Washington State couple who allegedly tortured their 7-year-old son to death has been busted in Mexico — more than a month after landing on a federal “Most Wanted” list.
Edgar Salvador Casian-Garcia, 34, and his girlfriend, Araceli Medina, 38, were apprehended by the US Marshals Service Friday, after spending nearly two years on the lam.
The pair are also accused of abusing their other children. Five of their kids, who were described as missing and endangered, were found with the parents and rescued.
“The crimes that Araceli Medina and Edgar Casian-Garcia are charged with are heinous and we commend the unwavering dedication of law enforcement,” said John Bischoff, of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC).
Law enforcement officials launched an investigation into the couple after discovering Casian-Garcia’s two biological daughters, then ages 8 and 3 years old, alone at a gas station in Tijuana in 2020.
The Marshals Service said in a statement that both children showed signs of “severe physical and sexual abuse.”
“The eldest girl told police they’d been subjected to unimaginable torture and that she’d been raped while living in Washington,” according to an NCMEC blog post from February.
In the course of the probe, authorities learned that Casian-Garcia’s 7-year-old son, Edgar Jr., was missing.
The parents initially told investigators that the boy was staying with his biological mom and siblings in California, but Edgar could not be located.
In June 2021, Casian-Garcia and Medina fled across the southern border with their five surviving children, including the mom’s three kids from a previous marriage and an infant.

A year ago, hikers discovered human remains near the missing family’s home in Franklin County, Washington, which were later identified through dental records as Edgar Jr.
According to a press release from the Marshals Service, it is believed that the young boy had been sex trafficked along with his sisters before he was “tortured to death.”
In February, the US Marshals Services added the fugitives to its “15 Most Wanted” list, the first couple to make the list. A $25,000 reward per fugitive had been offered for information leading to the pair’s arrest.
Casian-Garcia and Medina for now will remains in the custody of Mexican police pending their extradition back to Washington to face charges of first-degree aggravated murder, four counts of child rape and three counts of assault on a child.
Casian-Garcia and Medina’s children have been returned to the US and placed in protective custody.
