A Vermont mom tearfully asked for leniency for her husband after he pleaded guilty to killing the couple’s two young daughters in a drugged-up high speed crash.
Jordan Couture, 39, of Milton, sobbed as he copped to to negligent homicide and a slew of other charges on Tuesday for the 2021 wreck that left Kelsey, 7, and Kyriana, 10, dead, WMUR reported.
Neither girl was wearing a seat-belt, the truck was un-registered and Couture was driving 20 mph over the speed limit on a suspended license, authorities said.
He later tested positive for drugs, according to prosecutors.
A judge reluctantly accepted his plea agreement, which sentenced Couture to three to seven years in prison, with another three to seven years suspended.
But Jessica Gokey Couture told Judge Lawrence MacLeod that her husband was an “amazing father.”
“Our girls wouldn’t have wanted this,” she said.
“Jordan has been through enough with this accident. Our girls loved him to pieces.”
She added: “I don’t care what his record has to say.”
Jordan Couture lost control of his truck and rolled it on I-93 in Littleton, New Hampshire, prosecutors said.
Kelsey and Kyriana were thrown from the truck and died at the scene, the Caledonian Record reported.
Their dad walked away with only minor injuries, according to the outlet.
“Mr. Couture loved his daughters with every fiber of his being, and he has to live with that day for the rest of his life,” defense attorney Elroy Sequeira told the court, WMUR reported.
MacLeod accepted the guilty pleas while noting Couture’s prior motor vehicle record in Vermont.
“You were tempting fate. That’s what your record tells me. And, sadly, that came to fruition,” the judge said.
“My heart goes out to you folks. This process is not going to heal your wounds, sadly. But I will accept your pleas.”
Couture was sentenced to three to seven years behind bars with another three to seven years suspended.
