ESPN is beefing up its baseball coverage in New York.
Veteran MLB reporter Jorge Castillo is joining the network to cover the Yankees and Mets, The Post has learned.
He will also contribute to ESPN’s national MLB coverage.
Castillo spent the last six years at the Los Angeles Times, first on the Dodgers beat and later as an enterprise reporter.
Prior to that, he was on the Nationals beat at The Washington Post.
This ESPN job is something of a full-circle moment, as he also previously covered baseball for the Newark Star-Ledger and The New York Times.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Jorge to ESPN’s baseball team,” ESPN.com deputy editor Rachel Ullrich said in a statement.
“He’s covered some of baseball’s biggest franchises in some of its toughest markets, and we expect nothing less from him in New York. We can’t wait to add his incredible reporting, thoughtful analysis and creative storytelling to our talented team.”
For the last several years, ESPN has been mainly using national reporters to cover the Yankees and Mets.
Coley Harvey was previously on the Yankees beat for ESPN, and the Mothership hasn’t had a dedicated Mets reporter since Adam Rubin left the beat in 2017.
