Welcome back for another Friday breakdown of the MLB PrizePicks board.
We have 14 baseball games on tap today that all start at 7:05 PM ET or later.
The Cubs and Reds also play a double-header that we will omit from consideration.
Let’s jump right in and identify some selections to help anchor your PrizePicks cards tonight.
Irvin just faced this Miami team in his last start and had a strong outing. He allowed just 1 run in 6 innings, but he only recorded 3 strikeouts.
For the season, Irvin owns just an 18.8% strikeout rate, and his 6.9% swinging strike rate is the lowest in baseball among pitchers who have thrown at least 100 innings.
He has not generated a whiff rate above 24% on any of the four pitches in his arsenal.
The Marlins have struck out at just a 21.3% rate this season, which is the 8th-lowest rate in baseball.
Only two hitters in their projected lineup have struck out at a rate greater than 25% versus right-handed pitching this season.
This is a poor strikeout matchup for a below average strikeout pitcher.
I like Irvin to record less than 5 strikeouts today.
Glasnow is coming off his worst strikeouts performance of the season and I think we are getting a discount on this projection because of that factor.
His matchup isn’t great for strikeouts against the Guardians, who own the lowest strikeout rate (18.9%) in the league.
They have been a bit more prone to the strikeout lately, as they struck out at a 21.3% clip over the last 30 days.
Glasnow is an elite strikeout pitcher with a 32.6% strikeout rate on the season.
Prior to his last start against the Yankees, he rattled off 10 straight starts with more than 6.5 strikeouts.
I like him to return to form today and record more than 6.5 strikeouts.
Quantrill owns a putrid 12.4% strikeout rate this season and has not made a big league start in nearly two months.
He has recorded more than 4 strikeouts in just 1 of his 13 starts this season.
He has made four minor league starts while rehabbing a shoulder injury over the past month, and he recorded more than 4 strikeouts in just one of those starts.
Quantrill does not get a soft landing spot here as he gets a matchup with the Rays.
They have been an elite offense this season, as they rank second in the league with a 118 wRC+.
They have struck out at a rate of 23.1% this season, which is right around league average.
Tampa Bay should make plenty of loud contact today and hold Quantrill to less than 4 strikeouts.
Irvin has recorded more than 4 strikeouts in 2 of his 3 starts since rejoining the Baltimore rotation, but he has had three excellent strikeout matchups against the Mariners, Athletics, and Rockies.
All three of those teams rank in the top five for most strikeouts in the league.
Today, he gets a much more difficult matchup against the Diamondbacks, who own the fourth-lowest strikeout rate (20.5%) in the league.
Only two hitters in their projected lineup own a strikeout rate above 23.5% versus lefties this season.
Irvin owns a below average 20.4% strikeout rate and he has only thrown over 90 pitches once this season.
The contact-heavy Diamondbacks should be able to hold him to less than 4 strikeouts today.
