Playoff baseball is here! The stakes are high and the games have been a blast to watch.

Gray, a long-time veteran whose career was often bit by the injury bug, enjoyed a stellar season for the Minnesota Twins.

Gray logged a sparkling 2.79 ERA but averaged just less than one strikeout per inning.

The stakes are high in the second game against Toronto, which proves to be a tough matchup for him.

The Blue Jays own the 10th-best strikeout rate vs. right-handed pitching since August 1st and have been 7th best (20.4%) since September 1st. 

Toronto is projected to start five hitters with individual K rates better than 21% against righties. Gray will likely be competitive at this number, but I believe he’ll come up just short on Wednesday.

On the flip side of this game, we have the ever-so-volatile Jose Berrios on the bump.

Berrios rebounded from a lackluster 2022 with nearly a 4% increase in strikeout rate and a respectable 3.65 ERA. He’ll square off against a Twins team that has struck out 24.2% of the time vs. righties since September 1st, good for 10th-worst in baseball during that stretch.

In terms of putaway percentage (via baseballsavant), Jose’s changeup is his best out-pitch. According to RotoGrinders PlateIQ, dating back to the beginning of 2022, the bottom of the projected Minnesota lineup has been allergic to making contact against right-handed changeups.

Berrios has been incredible across the last 30 days, sporting a strikeout rate north of 30%.

Death, taxes, and the Marlins developing pitching. Braxton Garrett has exceeded expectations and has the stuff (health pending) to become a middle-of-the-rotation starting pitcher in the league.

However, righties have found occasional success against him this season with a .326 wOBA, a 59% hard-hit rate, and a 9% barrel rate.

Trea Turner is now an absurd 31-of-31 in stolen base attempts this season. He added to that tally on Tuesday night in Game 1 and I have no doubt he will be off and running if he gets on base again. A speedster in great platoon advantage hitting toward the top of the lineup? Not much more we can ask for here.
