NextImg:Minor league pitcher blasts ‘cheater’ Fernando Tatis Jr. after surrendering towering homer

Fernando Tatis Jr. hit a towering home run in the minor leagues on Wednesday, and not everyone was happy about it – including the pitcher who threw him the meatball.

Tatis, currently on a rehab assignment with the minor league El Paso Chihuahuas as he prepares to return from an 80-game PED suspension, took Giants prospect Kade McClure deep to left field during Wednesday’s game.

A reporter for NBC San Diego tweeted a video of the bomb, saying: “Kade McClure will be telling people for years about the time he gave up an absolute nuke to Fernando Tatis Jr.”

McClure didn’t exactly see it that way.

“Cheater hits a homerun on a rehab assignment during a steroid suspension,” McClure quote-tweeted the original post.

The 24-year-old Tatis was suspended for 80 games in August after a positive PED test, with his suspension taking up the remainder of the 2022 season and stretching into 2023.

He is afforded a 15-game rehab stint in the minors, and Wednesday was the second of those games.

The Padres’ star shortstop, who signed a 14-year, $330 million extension in 2021, appears to be in midseason form already – though, his minor league opponents are not exactly thrilled about that.

The crowd could be heard booing Tatis as he took his signature pause before rounding third base.

McClure, 27, was not listed as one of the Giants’ top prospects in 2023 by Baseball Pipeline.
