A Minnesota inventor has created the world’s “first aerial bound dog poop removal system” — a gizmo he’s dubbed “the Poopcopter.”

Conceived by scientist Caleb Olson, the drone is able to remotely patrol for doggy-doo in specific areas defined by users, like a backyard or open field. The device detects the mess in real time and then picks it up.

“It’s fully self guided, fully capable of retrieving poop from grass, and it’s full of crap,” Olson told British outlet SWNS.

“Once the drone performs a precision . . . landing on top of poop, all the drone needs to do is rotate 30 degrees to close the mechanism, picking up the poop,” he said.

After the dog log is secured, the machine flies the poop to a designated drop off location — or spins around fast enough midair that the payload can be dumped anywhere.

The poopcopter’s patent-pending 3D-printed pickup mechanism makes the prototype unique, Olson said. 

The simplicity of the design and materials makes the device affordable, and Olson is working on getting the device to consumers.

He’s also imagined municipalities hiring a “poopman,” similar to a garbage man, who can clean up neighborhoods.

Olson said he envisioned a van equipped with Poopcopters, which go to their target yards to patrol and clean  yards, bringing poop back to the van for dropoff.
