Mindy Kaling spent her Fourth of July surrounded by family.
The “Mindy Project” alum, 44, shared a rare video on Instagram of her kids, daughter, Katherine, 5, and son, Spencer, 2, enjoying Independence Day in their backyard on Tuesday.
In the clip, which was simply captioned, “❤️????????,” Kaling held a burning sparkler in her hand as she chased her eldest child around the yard.
She then ran up to her son, who was riding a tricycle on the grass in his PJs.
The comedian, who has kept her kids’ identities relatively private, did not show the youngsters’ full faces in the video.
Fans praised Kaling’s sweet family moment in the comments section of her post.
“I love that you don’t show your kids on social media! ????,” wrote one fan.
“This is so wholesome and surely a reflection of the goodness that radiates from your essence without pretence. @mindykaling you are a gem inside and out! We love your work and we love you ????,” added another.

“I love this content so much !!! Happy 4th of July ♥️????????????????,” commented a third supporter, while a fourth wrote, “So cute to watch you enjoying the small life in life with your kids!”
While celebrating her 44th birthday last month, Kaling — who lost more than 40 pounds in recent years — opened up about becoming the best version of herself for her children.
“Now I’m just trying to be present for them (hard for me! I’m impatient!), being up for anything (again hard for me, I am not whimsical!), and stay healthy for these two guys (ALSO hard! I just want to eat cheesesteaks every meal in front of the TV) for until I’m an old gray skeleton they’re like ‘mom, you gotta go,’” she wrote on Instagram June 24.
The “Office” alum actress welcomed Katherine and Spencer in 2017 and 2020, respectively. She left the name of her children’s father off both birth certificates.
While she has never disclosed the paternity of her kids, fans have long speculated that her ex B.J. Novak, 43, is their father.
However, Kaling previously revealed that she does not plan on speaking about her kids’ conception until they know the full details themselves.
“I want them to be old enough to talk to me about it and [tell me] how they want me to talk about it,” the Emmy nominee told Marie Claire last August.
“I’m the only parent my kids have,” the comedian continued. “I think I err on the side of super cautious so that there [are] less things that they can potentially be mad at me about down the line.”
