Things are getting strange in New England.
Patriots coach Mike Vrabel shared a cryptic message to the media when asked why he surprisingly cut last year’s defensive team captain Jabrill Peppers.
Vrabel said that there was no scheme fit issue for the release of Peppers.
“There’s a lot of reasons. I wouldn’t say that’s — we’re gonna try to do what’s best for the team, and we got a lot of different schemes that we can run in all three phases…There’s a lot that goes into it,” Vrabel told reporters on Monday. “And again, we’re just trying to build towards Sunday here, and that’s our focus. And again, that’s a decision that we had to make… We wish the best for Jabrill.”
Peppers seemed to point to some scheme issue in a post on X early Monday.
“Going on 9 years in this league,” the former Giant wrote on X. “I’ve had 7 HCs & 6 DCs lol There is no scheme you can place me in where I won’t find a way to be effective.”
Peppers was a team captain to start last season with the Patriots, but that status was taken away when he was arrested on assault, strangulation and drug charges.
Peppers was acquitted on the violent charges, but did admit to cocaine possession.
Peppers, who spent three years with the Giants from 2019 to 2021, was a solid performer for Big Blue before departing for the Patriots in free agency.
