NextImg:Mike Tannenbaum, Shannon Sharpe: Jets should call Tom Brady with Aaron Rodgers out for year

Tom Brady has been pulled out of retirement once before.

Mike Tannenbaum and Shannon Sharpe believe the Jets should at least see if it could happen twice.

Tannenbaum, the former Jets general manager and current ESPN analyst, tweeted Tuesday morning that the Jets should at least call Brady’s agent – Don Yee – to see if Brady would consider coming back to lead his former hated rival following Aaron Rodgers’ season-ending injury.

Tannenbaum did clarify the option as “unlikely,” but you never know until you ask.

Sharpe, who now is on ESPN’s “First Take”, said the Jets should show Brady the money.

“I’m calling Tom Brady. Seriously, I am going to put a call into Tom Brady,” Sharpe said. “All these other guys, I understand that. (Carson) Wentz is available and Nick Foles is available and maybe you can get Matt Ryan to come up out of the booth, CBS. I’m calling Tom. Tom, seriously, we got 25 mill on the table for you. Can you come give us something?”

The Jets, in theory, could be appealing since their current roster is set up much like the Tampa Bay team Brady joined after leaving the Patriots.

The Jets have an elite defense and a strong core of offensive weapons.

They just need a quarterback with a championship pedigree to get them to the promised land.

It should be noted the Jets cannot offer Brady $25 million, as Sharpe said, since the team has less than $10 million in cap space, per Overthecap.com.

Jets fans seemingly would champion the move, with plenty stating their desire for the seven-time Super Bowl winner to come to the Big Apple in the comments of Brady’s basketball-related post that was shared Tuesday on X, formerly known as Twitter.

In fact, some fans have gone as far as to create Brady Jets memes.

That being said, the odds of Brady coming back to play for the Jets and face Bill Belichick twice (including Week 3 at MetLife Stadium) are higher than Zach Wilson’s long-shot MVP odds.

Brady has literally said he hates the Jets in the past, and the Patriots just honored him before Sunday’s season-opening loss to the Eagles.

It would be quite a bad look for him to unretire after that celebration and lead one of the Patriots’ biggest rivals against his former coach.

But, as Tannenbaum said, it doesn’t hurt to make the call.

Tannenbaum’s other two options appear much more reasonable.

The former general manager said he would look into a trade for Rams starter Matthew Stafford or Saints backup Jameis Winston.

The Jets already inquired about Stafford and got shut down, which probably makes it a long shot.

Winston, the backup to quarterback Derek Carr, seems like a more reasonable target.

Tannenbaum also mentioned bringing in free agents Colt McCoy and Ryan – currently a CBS broadcaster – for physicals.

Neither option, however, is an inspiring choice.

Brady is certainly an inspiring option, even if it’s more of a dream than a reality.
