NextImg:Mike Francesa rips Jets as ‘complete fools’ in rant that makes no sense

The Jets wanting no part of “Hard Knocks” hasn’t stopped Mike Francesa from slamming them over the possibility.

The former WFAN radio legend called the possibility “a colossal mistake” on his Mike Francesa Podcast on the BetRivers Network.

“If the Jets are thinking about [‘Hard Knocks’] in this season, with what they are hoping to accomplish, with what they are going to deal with in terms of attention, this is already, to me, a colossal mistake by ownership, general manager, head coach, whoever had input into this,” a fired-up Francesa said.

Francesa furiously expressed criticism towards the Jets – who traded for Aaron Rodgers this offseason – for taking focus away from practice time as their new quarterback builds chemistry with his offensive weapons.

“If you have decided to open your training camp and your development time this year to ‘Hard Knocks,’ they are complete fools,” Francesa said. “That is the worst thing they can do right now.”

The one problem with the rant is the Jets have said they do not want to deal with HBO cameras at their camp, which opens on July 20 — one week earlier than most teams because they are playing in the Hall of Fame Game against the Browns.

“I know there are several teams that would love for ‘Hard Knocks’ to be in their building. We’re just not one of them,” Jets coach Robert Saleh said in June.

But less than a week after Saleh’s comments, ProFootballTalk reported that the league “apparently will not be listening to the preferences” of the Jets.

Packers president Mark Murphy also said he is “anxious to see the Jets and the many ex-Packers on ‘Hard Knocks’ this summer,” and that it “should be very entertaining.”

It is unclear if Murphy had inside information or commented on the speculation.

The Jets are among the teams that cannot reject the “Hard Knocks” offer from the NFL, along with the Bears, Saints and Commanders

Plenty of attention has already come since the Jets landed Rodgers in a trade from the Packers, but expect that to intensify as it gets closer to the season.

“They don’t need publicity,” Francesa said of the expected media circus that awaits the franchise this season. “They are going to have to turn them away; they are going to get so much media attention.”

Francesa continued by saying the transition at quarterback from Zach Wilson and Mike White to Rodgers is the “biggest single year-to-year transition of the quarterback in the history of the sport.”

“I can’t believe they could even be considering this,” he said of the Jets front office.

“It is as bad of a decision as they could possibly make, and it scares me going forward that they will continue to make mistakes. Because ya know what? I don’t know yet whether the Jets or especially the coaching staff is ready for what it means to have Aaron Rodgers in the building. This would already be a step that tells me that they don’t.”

Rodgers had a down year last season, but he won back-to-back NFL MVPs in 2020 and 2021.

“I have very high hopes for this team and Rodgers’ performance; this would be a colossal mistake,” Francesa said.
