Former WFAN host Mike Francesa slammed the Giants in a post on X on Saturday for not protecting quarterback Daniel Jones, who will miss Sunday’s game vs. the Bills with a neck injury.
“Before the Giants concern themselves with getting Jones a No.1 receiver maybe they should concentrate on keeping him out of the hospital,” Francesa wrote.
Head coach Brian Daboll announced before practice on Friday that Jones will miss Sunday night’s game.
Jones suffered the injury while being sacked during the fourth quarter of the Week 5 loss to the Dolphins.
“I think he’s getting better, but not good enough to play for this game,” Daboll said.
There was initial hope Jones would be able to play and that he would avoid the same kind of neck injury that forced him to miss six games in 2021.
But Jones is out, and that leaves Tyrod Taylor as the Giants’ No. 1 quarterback.
Keeping him upright should be job No. 1 for the Giants’ beleaguered and battered offensive line, which has let Jones be sacked 28 times this season — which is second-worst in the NFL behind the Washington Commanders and Sam Howell’s 29 sacks.
That fact didn’t escape Francesa’s watchful eye.
“And while we are on the subject of Jones: get off his back! There isn’t a QB alive who could successfully operate behind that line,” Francesa wrote in another post on X.
Left tackle Andrew Thomas, center John Michael Schmitz and swing tackle Matt Peart will not play Sunday due to injuries.
Making matters worse, right tackle Evan Neal did not practice Friday and is listed as questionable to face the Bills.
Also listed as questionable are running back Saquon Barkley and tight end Darren Waller, meaning Taylor might not have two of his top options on offense while facing a Bills pass rush looking to tee off on the Giants’ patchwork line.
