The Tampa Bay Buccaneers may not have Tom Brady as their signal caller anymore, but wide receiver Mike Evans is confident in the two quarterbacks they do have.
Baker Mayfield and Kyle Trask will duke it out for the starting job when NFL training camps open later this summer, and Evans had high praise for both of them.
“Kyle’s improved a lot,” Evans said to Ari Alexander of NBC affiliate KPRC. “I’m really impressed with what I’ve seen with Baker. Whoever the quarterback will be, I’m positive they’re going to make the right choice and we’re going to win some games.”
The Bucs are coming off an 8-9 season last year with the future Hall of Famer as QB, which was still good enough to lock up the NFC South.
Now the reins will be handed over to either Mayfield or Trask.
Mayfield has had plenty of ups and downs during the course of his career which has included stops in Cleveland, Carolina, Los Angeles and now Tampa.
Trask was selected by the Buccaneers in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft and appeared in just one game last season, completing three passes for 23 yards.
Evans will play a big role in the success of the passing game next season for the Bucs as he looks to continue his stretch of nine straight 1,000-plus receiving-yard seasons with an eye on Jerry Rice’s record of 11 consecutive seasons with at least 1,000 yards.
“I think about it. It’s right there, so I’m gonna definitely try to get that,” Evans said. “I’m already one of one right now. I hope I can pass the great Jerry Rice and his record. Obviously, nobody will pass his records probably, like ever, total. But that 1,000-yard streak record would be cool to have.”

While Evans is hoping to beat the record in the next few seasons, there is a greater goal on his mind as well.
“I should get 1,000 yards if I’m healthy. Every year,” Evans said. “It aint that. I want to be one of the tops in the league. I want to be winning games. That’s what I care about.”
